your daily dose of girls basketball news & information
this game took place on Friday
DAKOTA SHOWCASE
POOL PLAY
IBCA SELECT RED 92, MONTANA ELITE 46
This was the first game I saw of 13 over two days. Due to the sheer volume I will give quick recaps.
x
IBCA ran over Montana in the first of 9 straight games I charted. The odd thing was Montana led 3-2 and another at 5-4. By half time IBCA had enough to win the game as they led 48-21.
IBCA broke the pre-tournament record of 88 points and tied a tournament record with 33 made 2 pointers in this game. IBCA played with the precision of a fine German made car. In the first half IBCA had a scoring string of five. In the second half they one of seven. Droughts were few and far between.
x
Montana relied on the 3 as they had three players 5-4 on the roster and only one player 6-0 or above. Also IBCA was physically stronger. Montana's droughts included stretches in the first half of 9, and 5; and 6 and 8 in the second.
x
You can see the entire photo gallery of the IBCA Select Red vs Montana Elite game at kevinanderson.photostockplus.com (except the photo I took of the floor, I deleted that one).

my comments on players are going to be brief unless something really struck me. I have analyzed IBCA earlier in the season.

IBCA Wins Dakota Showcase Title
#4 posting 6.28.2008your daily dose of girls basketball news & informationIBCA WINS DAKOTA SHOWCASE TITLEIBCA Select Red won the Dakota Showcase crown with a 72-49 victory over CSS Bison. IBCA used their balance, and depth in bringing home the trophy. Both teams came up short in the last two tournaments. IBCA lost a heart breaker to North Tartan Larson in the Summer Jam semifinals two weeks ago. In replay from last weekend, CSS Bison lost to Team WI Select Samuels in the championship at the All Iowa Attack. The similarity was the Bison had to play the championship game one hour after the semifinals. The Bison jumped out to a 12-3 lead early with five scores in the first six possessions. After that initial outburst IBCA outscored the Bison 69-37. Late in the first half IBCA scored on seven straight possessions in a 16-4 run. At half time IBCA led 34-31. Foul problems mounted for the Bison. IBCA ran their offense to precision again in the second half as they had a 20-5 run. During that stretch the Bison bench was slapped with a technical. Later in the half IBCA had an eight possession scoring streak (and 11/12 streak). At one point IBCA held the ball for over two minutes as the Bison stayed in their zone. IBCA's Jamie Printy led both teams with 17 points. Every player scored for IBCA.In the quarterfinals the Bison beat the 2007 champs Metro Stars Black 52-40, the game I charted. The Bison raced out to another early lead (12-3). The pressure and transition game were in high gear while MSB couldn't get any rhythm on offense. At half time the Bison led 30-11. MSB had a much better second half with a 29-23 advantage. However CSS Bison won the game 53-40.In the other semi IBCA beat Pinnacle Bank Nebraska 56-47.

#2 posting 6.16.2008your daily dose of girls basketball news & informationthis game took place Saturday, June 14, 2008Summer Jam 15u DivisionBloomington Jefferson METRO STARS 63, IBCA SELECT BLUE 36The Metro Stars did not have a problem beating the younger and smaller IBCA 14 team 63-36. On top of that this was the first tournament experience for IBCA Select since March. The Stars led 7-0 after their first four possessions. That prompted a time out by IBCA. They did score on their next possession. That started the best stretch for IBCA where they had a 7-6 advantage to close to 13-7. IBCA had to use their second time out at 14-7 due to the back court pressure applied by the Stars. An 8 possession drought stopped what little momentum IBCA had started. The Stars didn't really seize advantage at that stage either only adding four points. The Stars kept adding to their margin and led 32-17 at half time. Haley Thomforde had 9 at the break for the Stars, while Taylor Shull had all 8 of her points in the first half to lead IBCA.IBCA had another severe drought in the second half, this time 11 empty trips. The Stars led at that point 42-18. The Stars were headed in the opposite direction with six straight scoring trips. That pushed the score to 51-24 with about 7 minutes left and the margin remained the same the rest of the way.

#4 posting 6.16.2008your daily dose of girls basketball news & informationthis game took place on Saturday, June 14, 2008Summer Jam Tournament16/17 divisionBloomington JeffersonIBCA SELECT RED 52, MN STARS ECKMANN 41IBCA beat MN Stars Eckmann in the 16u round of 32 52-41. In the games I charted with IBCA before this tournament they were hitting 105 pp100. In this game the pp100 was 78.8. However this is the first tournament they played since the end of March and the rust showed. One area the rust didn't show was the IBCA defense. They only allowed 9 first half points and 8 total two point field goals all game.MSE started the scoring first with a reverse lay up on a second chancer by Kellie Ring. The game was tied at 5 when both teams sunk into the deep freeze. IBCA had nine empty trips while MSE had six. IBCA burned a time out when the trailed at 7-5. The last MSE basket of the first half came with nine minutes left. That was also their last lead at 9-7. After that it was all IBCA. MSE suffered through a drought of biblical proportions with 19 dry possessions. Tack on two to star the second half and the grand total was 21. MSE had seven straight turnovers in the early drought stages. IBCA made use of the down time by going on a 16-0 run the rest of the half. IBCA led 23-9 at the break. With such a deep hole MSE had a lot of catching up to do. After failing to score on their first two possessions MSE's offense awoke from their slumber. They went on a 17-6 run to close the margin to 31-26 with nine minutes left. MSE was 8/12 in that offensive sequence. It was IBCA's turn to struggle offensively. They had a 2/10 offensive sequence with three turnovers in the mix. The game hung in the 7 to 9 margin the rest of the way for the most part. MSE did close to 36-30 after a three by Alisa Brown. In the last three minutes IBCA found their groove again with a 5/6 sequence. IBCA stretched their lead to 52-38 just before Ring nailed a three as time expired for the final 52-41 margin.
